Question: Your saying that you want to discover something no one else has, do have any idea about what that might be?I mean surely you should have some direction. If not then are you going to blindly spend the money

  Yes, we are mostly not looking completely blindly. Theorists have made many models which predict how we can find something new. We mostly start by looking at those first. But when you already have collected the data, you can analyse the data in many different ways, and can come up with something totally unknown. You are not wasting money, just a lot of computing power 🙂
