      Primarily two things:

If there are even tinier particles making up those tiny particles; i.e what are building blocks of nature.

If there is a new tiny particle which we have not seen so far, may be predicted by theory calculations (or not!).

The first thing I’m trying to work out is whether or not the particles I study (axions) exist at all! Because axions are predicted by many string theory models, this will help us decide whether or not string theory is true.

If axions do exist, we will also try to work out how heavy they are and how they interact with other particles. This will help us work out more about what the universe is like and how it began.
