The sun and stars are made of very hot gas. The surface of the sun is almost 6,000 degrees, and its centre is 15 million degrees hot! Some stars are cooler than our Sun, some stars are hotter, but they are all made of hot gas.
The Sun and stars are mostly made of hydrogen – about 75% of a star is made of hydrogen and about 24% helium (the remaining 1% includes all the other elements). The Sun is really just a big ball of gas!
