• Question: What does 'I discovered a dying star tearing itself apart' mean?

      When stars die they throw off their outer layers and begin to fall apart. This process happens very quickly and it is rare to actually be able to see it happening. We discovered a star that was doing this and so we are now able to watch that star dying, which will be very useful to us for understanding how stars die.
