When I was 11, a friend of mine got a little telescope for Christmas, and we looked at the craters on the Moon with it. From then on I watched tv programmes on space when I could, and read loads of books. (Believe it or not, we didn’t have the internet back then 😯 )

Most of the telescopes we use a pretty large, because that’s what we need to gather enough light from very faint objects. They have mirrors to collect light from objects. The mirrors range in size from 1 metre and over 8 metres across.
