• Question: Do you find it challenging to find something new in the gaps between genes?

      It is a challenge because we don’t quite understand the language of these bits of DNA yet. Our DNA is made up of a string of bases that we write as AACGCCTGCA for example. With genes we know how three different bases (like AGT or TCA) code for different amino acids which make up different proteins. We understand the language of the genes. However we don’t understand the language of the bits of DNA in the gaps between genes so finding new important bits is quite hard sometimes!
