Yes. Believe it or not I, originally wasn’t going to do physics at A-level! I liked it but I didn’t think it would help get a job. Lucky I changed my mind and decide to take the subjects I liked!

It was only afterwards that I found that physics is good for all types of jobs, like all other sciences. Having science A-levels means that you can think about problems and understand detailed stuff, which is important for lots of different careers, not just science.

Thankfully the subjects I needed were the ones I enjoyed: Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. But I also enjoyed other things outside of science, like sport and performing arts. So I took an extra year after my sciencey A levels to do a performing arts A level and get coaching qualifications for football, swimming and other sports as well as volunteering with the Higher Sports Leader Award. I think it’s much better to be well rounded as a person through your interests outside of schoolwork 🙂

If you don’t enjoy the subjects at A level you might need to rethink why you’re doing them as if they are needed for your future career you should expect your future career to use them. Therefore if you find a career that wants A levels you enjoy, you’re more likely to enjoy that job 🙂

Yes, I enjoyed my A-levels a lot! If I hadn’t enjoyed physics and maths at A-level I probably wouldn’t enjoy being a physicist either!

Sometimes I had bad days of course, and there will always be some parts of a subject that you don’t enjoy or find boring. (And I didn’t like all of my teachers…)

I really enjoyed A level physics and maths, I think the subjects became more interesting during A level than they were at GCSE, and in fact they get much more interesting if you study them at university. Its important to pursue the subjects that you’re good at or that are useful for you later in life, but you should always study the subjects that interest you the most!

I enjoyed history and geography a lot, and I think some knowledge of every subject is useful 🙂
