Scientists think sneezing evolved as a mechanism to get stuff out of our noses! You might have noticed that when dust gets up your nose you sneeze, for example!

We normally sneeze when there is something caught in our noses. Noses are important because we can breathe through them, so its important for the body to get rid of anything in there.

Inside everyone’s nose are lots of tiny hairs. If something small like some dust gets into your nose, it pushes on the little hairs. This makes a tickling sensation. That makes you sneeze, and when you do the thing in your nose normally flies out 🙂

Sneezes are a mechanism to get things out of our noses that our bodies don’t like. I’m an asthmatic so I can sneeze a lot because my body seems to want to get rid of lots of things inside of me! 🙁
