• Question: What is your view on the aquatic ape theory?

      I think it’s a bit silly, I have never seen any strong evidence that one of the species that humans evolved from was an ocean-swimming ape.

      Anyway, I’m not a very good swimmer, although I like snorkelling 😉

      I’m not convinced by it – I don’t think there’s any good evidence for it anyway! I’m not an expert on evolutionary theory though.

      The evolutionary fossil record doesn’t support it and I don’t think it’s got any real ground to stand on to be honest. Other theories are much better supported. It’s a weird way of trying to explain human evolution because of one cause (a sudden change from being able to live in water to needing to live on land). It can actually be better to explain our evolution through lots of causes, even if it’s a little more complex!

      I don’t think its the right theory, but that’s because the evidence I’ve seen for it so far doesn’t look right to me!
