Yes! I often talk to children and teenagers about my work. I think it’s really important that scientists explain their research to the public, not just to other scientists. I like research to much to become a full time teacher though!

Oh yes definitely, in fact I often visit schools to talk to people about science and my research. I’d really like to find a way to teach people more about science, perhaps getting young children involved in basic research, which I think would be relatively easy in astronomy. We’re trying to start a project that allows school children to look through astronomy images and find new stars and nebulae. Do you think that would be fun?

Certainly – I think we owe it to society to spread knowledge/awareness about science. Also we have a selfish interest too – we need young students like you to feel motivated and come join us, and help us to make the next big discovery πŸ˜€

Yes! I used to be a tutor for science and maths as it is. I don’t think teaching is for everyone, I could never do it every day for a job! But it is a very good profession and I respect a lot of scientists who become teachers πŸ™‚

Yes, I often talk to school classes and families about being a scientist and what I do. I think its a great job, and I tell people to let them know that they could be scientists too one day.

Did you know that someone else asked this question too? I think lots of people might be wondering about this.
